Social Structure of Ancient China
- People were divided into four classes based on the Confucian system
- The Upper class contained the emperor, his court, and scholar officials
- The second class contained peasants, which made up the largest percent of the population
- The third class was artisans who made items for daily life and possibly some luxurious items
- The lowest class was merchants because they did not produce anything
- Merchants sold other peoples items to traders across the world
- The Military was not a class, but you could still rise in society since the military is part of the government
