- Kings were the highest rank in society because they claimed that they had been chosen to rule by the gods
- Priests were directly under kings because of their high place in society
- Below priests were the skilled craftspeople, merchants, and traders of sumer
- Farmers and Laborers who made up a large part of the working class were under traders
- At the bottom of the social class were slaves
